Some walks have a destination. Others are the point of the afternoon. A useful walking diary makes room for both.
Start with the shape of the day
Distance tells you how far an observed journey travelled. Moving time describes an interval of activity. A timeline adds the stops and transitions around it. These are related views, not interchangeable scores.
A short walk between two places still belongs in your diary, even when it does not become a dedicated workout. A car journey belongs in the day’s context without being added to walking distance.
Notice where a number comes from
Location observations can describe a route. A phone’s pedometer can provide steps over an interval. Available Health readings may add another source. Combining them requires care: two overlapping records do not necessarily represent two different efforts.
Etmasha’s design keeps the source visible and treats unavailable information as unavailable. An empty step count should not silently become zero.
Leave room for ordinary days
A diary can help you notice patterns without turning each day into a contest. The detour through a park and a familiar walk home are worth remembering on their own terms.
