A route drawn on a map looks precise. But the line is a presentation of observations, and there may be missing time between them.

A route and a guess are different things

If the phone recorded a point before a long interruption and another afterward, joining them can suggest a journey that was never measured. Directions between the two places would only describe a possible route.

Etmasha’s approach is to preserve the missing interval. Known sampled distance remains known; a gap does not become extra measured distance.

Read the context

Signal, accuracy, permissions and app lifecycle can affect which observations are available. A permission being enabled is useful context, but it is not proof that every moment was recorded.

The recording status should show the last observed time and separate Location, Motion and fitness availability. These clues make it easier to understand what the app actually knows.

Corrections still matter

You may know that a journey was a walk rather than a drive. Correcting that label can improve your diary without pretending to recover missing coordinates. A manual note should stay identifiable as a manual note.

The aim is a trustworthy record, including its limits.
